Gamesa warning for UK as turbine makers demand clarity

Gamesa plans to build a major turbine manufacturing complex in the Port of Leith, but warns that without clarity it won't invest

Major wind turbine manufacturers remain unconvinced by the UK government’s Electricity Market Reform (EMR) proposals, warning that they could postpone or cancel planned investments unless there is more clarity.

Officials from Spanish company Gamesa, which plans to build a major turbine manufacturing complex in the Port of Leith, Scotland, criticised the plans — pointing out that their agreement is currently only a memorandum of understanding.

“If we don’t get clarity on the size of the market, we will not invest, it is as simple as that,” one Gamesa official tells Recharge.
