Areva has shortlist of four sites for UK wind turbine plant

An announcement will be made about Areva's UK plans in September or October.

French manufacturer Areva Wind expects to announce a site in the autumn for its planned British turbine plant, director for UK Wind Julian Brown tells Recharge.

Brown, who was recently elected to the board of industry body RenewableUK, says: “Working on our UK industrial plans is a clear part of our strategy to complement the sites in Bremerhaven and Le Havre.”

He says the company has a shortlist of four “viable” sites, all of them on the coast of northeast England and southeast Scotland. An announcement will be made in September or October.

Brown adds that Areva is “fully committed” to the UK wind market, even though he admits that the progress of the government’s Electricity Market…
