India's Welspun signs 850MW wind deals with Karnataka

The Welspun projects may join Acciona's 56MW Tuppadahalli wind farm in Karnataka's fleet

Welspun Energy plans to develop two wind power projects with a total 850MW capacity in India’s Karnataka state.

New Delhi-based Welspun has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) and expression of interest (EOI) with the Karnataka government for a 100MW project and a 750MW development.

The plants are to be built in the districts of Bijapur, Chitradurga and Belgaum.

Welspun says it will invest 56.8bn rupees ($1bn) in the two projects, to be developed within the next five years.

The power company, which already has a several solar projects in operation, has a goal to develop 1GW of wind in India over the next three to four years.
