Suzlon tables $3bn proposal to crack open Mexican market

Indian turbine maker Suzlon is moving in on Mexico as its next big market, and has proposed a $3bn wind plan to the government.

Suzlon has yet to enter the Mexican market, which is dominated by Gamesa, Acciona and Vestas, but hopes to jump-start its entry.

“We have presented a development plan to the Ministry of Energy that we believe could double the country’s wind production, and create investment opportunities for up to $3bn,” Erik Winther Pederson, Suzlon’s head of business development with a special focus on Latin America, tells Recharge.

Mexico’s wind-power output this year is expected to be close to 1GW.
