Samsung forms joint venture to test wind turbines in Texas

Samsung Wind Energy has formed a joint venture in Texas to build one each of the company’s 2.3MW and 2.7MW permanent magnet synchronous generator wind turbines and certify both for the US market.

Samsung and Group NIRE intend to begin construction in early 2013 at Texas Tech University’s Reese Technology Center in Lubbock in the Texas Panhandle.

Samsung’s website says the units will have a 105-meter rotor diameter. The global launch for both units is scheduled for April next year, it says.
