Vestas walks away with 297MW of wind in South Africa tender

Vestas emerged as the biggest winner in the second round of South Africa’s renewables tender, with the Danish turbine maker being named “preferred supplier” for more than half of the total wind capacity awarded.

Vestas says it has been provisionally tapped to supply turbines to five of the seven wind projects handed down by the government – or 297MW of the 562MW of wind capacity allocated.

That means that Vestas is likely to be supplying the five smallest wind projects awarded.

The pairing of Spanish renewables developer and turbine-manufacturer Acciona, and South African infrastructure group Aveng, say they have been selected for the 135.2MW Gouda wind farm, to be built in the municipality of Drakenstein, Western Cape Province.
