ABEEólica welcomes doubling of production in first quarter

Brazil’s wind-power output has doubled in the first three months of 2012 compared with the same period in 2011, according to the industry body, ABEEólica.



The association rejects reports by the national electricity system operator, ONS, that show wind farms in the northeast and south of the country operating below developer-estimated capacity factors.

Authorities have been concerned about weak energy production from Brazil’s wind farms relative to their claimed capacity factors — which reached up to 60% in the most recent regulated power tender.
