Sempra, BP team to build Auwahi wind farm in Hawaii

Sempra US Gas & Power and BP Wind Energy will jointly develop the 21MW Auwahi Wind farm in southeastern Maui and expect to have the project in commercial operation in the fourth quarter.

The eight Siemens turbines when operating at full capacity will provide power for 10,000 homes. The entire power output has been sold under a long-term power purchase agreement to the Maui Electric Company.

Sempra will operate the project once construction is complete. This new source of wind power helps Hawaii reach its clean energy goal to secure 40% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
