UK's SSE to create new offshore wind holding company

UK-based utility Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) is to create a holding company that will group together all its offshore wind farm interests.

SSE says it will be the sole owner of the new holding company for “the foreseeable future”. The entity “will give SSE a company through which to finance offshore renewable energy developments and the flexibility to introduce other sources of funding” to support the development and construction of offshore wind farms.

The incorporation of the new company should be completed soon, SSE says.

SSE owns 50% of the 504MW Greater Gabbard wind farm – with RWE holding the rest – and 25.1% of Dong’s 367MW Walney wind farm.
