Crown Estate denies offshore leasing-round 'rumours'

The Crown Estate owns the UK's seabed

The Crown Estate has quashed speculation that it is carrying out a new licensing round for UK offshore wind farm demonstration sites.

The body, which owns the sea bed around the UK, was reacting to what it describes as rumours within the offshore wind sector that a test site leasing-round is underway.

“On 25 April we informed the market that we will announce details in September of an industry discussion regarding the establishment of further demonstration sites, including those for deep water and floating wind technologies,” The Crown Estate says in a statement.

“Other than the Northern Ireland leasing round The Crown Estate is not currently undertaking any offshore wind leasing processes.”
