AES sells Chinese wind assets to Sembcorp in $85.5m deal

Global energy group AES is selling its Chinese wind power assets to Singapore’s Sembcorp as the company focuses on other core markets.

The sale, valued at $85.5m, includes a 49% stake in each of the four wind farms jointly owned by AES with China’s Guohua Energy Investment, as well as a 25% stake in a coal-fired power plant.

AES was the first US power company to enter China, moving into the market in the early 1990s. The wind farms were a relatively new business, with the first starting operations in 2008.
