Huub den Rooijen, the UK Crown Estate's new offshore wind head

Unlike many in these uncertain times, Huub den Rooijen, the Crown Estate’s new director of offshore wind, exudes optimism.

The UK is set to double its capacity to about 4.2GW over the coming year and, with consent applications about to be submitted from the first giant Round 3 projects, den Rooijen has few doubts about the future.

“People need to get used to things that are new and unfamiliar — like the first microwave oven. I think offshore wind will become mundane,” he says.

Den Rooijen has the credentials to back his optimism having played an important part in creating the offshore wind scene from scratch.
