Acciona hopes 3MW wind turbine will invigorate US sales

Acciona Windpower will install two AW-3000/116 wind turbines in Iowa as part of a drive to gain a foothold in the 3MW segment of the US market dominated by Vestas.

Acciona expects to have the units in commercial operation in the second half of this year. A long-term power purchase agreement has been signed with Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO).

The vendor introduced the enhanced AW-3000 machine with a 116-meter rotor diameter. Acciona touts the turbine’s power curve and cost of energy as better than the competition.
