Anti-wind power tycoon Donald Trump claims he was led to believe by Scottish leader Alex Salmond that no offshore wind turbines would be sited near his new golf course.

Trump claims he was “lured” to Scotland to build the luxury golf venue in Aberdeenshire only to discover that “ugly and obnoxious” wind turbines would be placed within sight of it, despite the First Minister’s assurances to the contrary.

The US hotel magnate made the claim in Edinburgh while giving evidence to a parliamentary committee’s inquiry into Scotland’s renewable energy targets.

He is involved in an increasingly bitter row with the Scottish government over proposals for an 11-turbine test wind farm in Aberdeen Bay, the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC).
