Globeleq boosts wind portfolio with 44MW Nicaragua project

The Eolo project will use 22 Gamesa turbines

Emerging markets power specialist Globeleq Generation is buying the 44MW Eolo wind farm in Nicaragua, adding to its renewable energy assets in Central America.

Globeleq's majority-owned subsidiary, Globeleq Mesoamerica Energy (Wind), has bought all the shares in project developer Eolo de Nicaragua.

The company already has operating wind farms in Costa Rica and Honduras.

The Eolo project is on the shores of Lake Nicaragua, about 125km south of the capital Managua. It will use 22 Gamesa G90 2MW wind turbines to deliver electricity to two local subsidiaries of Gas Natural of Spain, which have agreed 20-year purchase agreements.
