TenneT hires ABB for Nordergründe offshore wind link

A vessel laying ABB cables

ABB has won an order from transmission system operator TenneT to supply an alternating current (AC) electricity link between the Nordergründe offshore wind farm and the German grid.

The AC interconnector will have the capacity to handle 111MW of wind power once it starts flowing from the North Sea project in 2013.

The scope of the project will encompass design, engineering and installation of the 155kV land and submarine cable system, the onshore and offshore shunt reactors, the onshore 155/220kV power transformer and the extension of an existing 220kV substation.

The system comprises three four-kilometre-long single-core AC land cables and 28km of three-core AC submarine cable with integrated fiber optics.
