China's Goldwind unveils 1.5MW model for 'ultra-low' winds

Chinese wind company Goldwind is launching a turbine for “ultra-low” wind speeds to increase its sales in a growing market.

The company says its GW93/1500 series is suited to wind speeds of less than 6.5-metres per second (m/s).

The turbine has a 93 metre rotor diameter with a rated capacity of 1.5MW.

Chinese wind farm developers are increasingly looking at sites with weaker wind speeds as they continue to deal with severe grid curtailment in parts of northern China with the best resources.
