Poll finds majority of UK public backs wind deployment

Wind-power deployment enjoys significant public support in the UK, according to a new opinion poll.

Two-thirds of people questioned by research company Ipsos MORI said they favoured the use of wind generation, compared to 8% who oppose it.

The study – commissioned by industry group RenewableUK – also reports that 57% of respondents find the impact of wind farms on the landscape to be acceptable. Less than one-fifth deemed it unacceptable.

Visual impact of turbines is one of the drawbacks most often cited by the UK’s vocal anti-wind lobby, which enjoys backing from sections of the country’s media and has proved adept at making itself heard.
