Alstom says it can be offshore wind leader without acquisitions

Alstom does not need to make acquisitions to develop a leading position in offshore wind, Alstom Wind vice-president Alfonso Faubel tells Recharge.

“Believe me, we don’t need [to buy] REpower for our offshore turbine development,” he says.

Market speculation recently linked the French manufacturer with a takeover bid for the ­Suzlon-owned German offshore specialist. Faubel says the French ­offshore tender­, in which a consortium led by EDF and ­Alstom won three of the four ­areas awarded — and testing of its 6MW Haliade ­direct-drive turbine — has put the company in a strong position.
