Denmark to launch 'major wind tender' in 2013, says premier

Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt told the EWEA 2012 conference in Copenhagen that Denmark will launch a major tender for new wind capacity next year, as it strives to meet its target of nearly 50% of electricity from wind by 2020.

“We will welcome numerous bidders for our projects and will design the tender process in open dialogue, so look at this an invitation,” says Thorning-Schmidt, addding that the tender will be for “new major wind farms".

She called the target – which is the fruit of an agreement between seven political parties – the “most ambitious plan in Denmark in Europe and perhaps in the world", which will create 8,000 new jobs in the coming year on top of the 25,000 who already work in the wind sector.
