BP, Sempra advance largest wind farm in state of Kansas

A unit of BP and Sempra US Gas & Power say construction is fully underway on the 419.2MW Flat Ridge 2 project and also announced a 51.2MW expansion, with both to be completed this year.

Total investment will exceed $800m. Located about 40 miles (64.3km) southwest of Wichita, Flat Ridge 2 will be the largest wind farm in the state of Kansas.

BP Wind Energy and Sempra are equal partners for 419 MW of the wind farm, and are finalizing joint venture agreements for the additional capacity. BP will be the operator.

Flat Ridge 2 will utilize 294 General Electric 1.6MW turbines. Long-term power purchase agreements have been signed with Associated Electric Cooperative for 310.4MW, Southwestern Electric Power for 108.8MW and Arkansas Electric Cooperative for 51.2MW.
