Global Marine Energy lands Lincs offshore wind cabling contract

Siemens is equipping the two gearless test stations with synchronous generators which are excited by permanent magnets. The generators are some of the biggest permanent magnet machines ever to be built. The test generators come from two suppliers. The first generator was developed by the Siemens Industrial Sector, the second generator is from Converteam, a wind energy station sub-supplier.

Siemens is supplying turbines to the Lincs offshore project

Subsea power specialist Global Marine Energy (GME) has been signed up to provide landing works for the west export nearshore cable at the UK’s 270MW Lincs offshore wind farm.

Global Marine will start the work this month and expects to complete the operation by the end of July.

The company says it will use the cable barge Nautilus Maxi to carry out the work in the shallow waters of the project site off eastern England.

The contract was awarded by UK utility Centrica, which is developing Lincs in conjunction with Danish partner Dong Energy.

The offshore wind farm is due to begin operations by the end of this year. Siemens is supplying 75 3.6MW turbines to the project.
