REpower replaces Vestas as Gode Wind 1 turbine supplier

REpower has landed a contract to deliver 54 of its 6M offshore turbines to PNE Wind’s Gode Wind 1 project, replacing Vestas, which had long been the preferred supplier.

Rainer Heinsohn, a spokesman for Cuxhaven-based PNE, tells Recharge the decision was made because Vestas would not be able to deliver enough of its new V164-7MW turbines in time, and the company wants to use larger and fewer turbines at the project.

As recently as its last quarterly financial results, PNE still indicated that Vestas would be supplying 77 of its smaller V112-3.0MW turbines at Gode Wind 1, which is one of the closest projects to shore in the German North Sea, some 35km north of the East Frisian Islands.
