Mitsubishi back for more stakes in German offshore wind links

The links are crucial to the development of Germany's offshore wind sector

Japanese engineering giant Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) has signed a letter of intent with transmission system operator TenneT to buy into two more German offshore wind grid-connections.

Mitsubishi will take 49% stakes in the HelWin2 and DolWin2 connections in the German North Sea. Both links are crucial to the development of the German offshore wind sector, and are the subject of ongoing negotiations after TenneT announced that they could face lengthy delays.

TenneT says that the projects – which will have the capacity to connect 1.59GW of power to the grid – involve an aggregate investment of around €1.7bn ($2.23bn), with an expected third-party equity stake of around €340m. The connections are due to be completed by…
