Iberdrola connects first turbines at 217MW Whitelee extension

Iberdrola subsidiary ScottishPower Renewables has connected the first array of turbines to the grid at its 217MW extension to the Whitelee wind farm in Scotland.

The extension, which consists of 69 3MW Alstom ECO 100 turbines and six 1.67MW ECO 74 turbines, will bring Whitelee to a total capacity of 539MW.

The €200m ($268m) deal is the first major order from Alstom by Iberdrola, which used 2.3MW Siemens turbines for the first stage of Whitelee.

The extension project, which is scheduled to be fully completed in the summer, has cost more than £300m ($474m).
