Acciona cracks Brazil with 120MW CPFL wind turbine deal

Spain’s Acciona has sold 120MW of wind turbines to Brazil’s CPFL Renováveis as it advances plans to build a factory in the South American nation, Recharge has learned.

The deal – revealed by Miguel Saad, president of CPFL Renováveis – is the first confirmation of an Acciona sale in Brazil, although the Spanish group is understood to be negotiating with other developers that won contracts in previous federal power tenders.

Acciona’s AW 3000 turbines have been approved by Brazilian development bank BNDES, allowing developers that choose the turbines access to the bank’s financing.

Turbine manufacturers must source at least 60% of components in their machines from within Brazil to qualify for BNDES approval.
