Ming Yang in line to equip 198MW China offshore wind project

China will build a 198MW offshore wind farm off the coast of Guangdong province, with local turbine manufacturer Ming Yang expected to supply the turbines.

The project, located near Zhuhai city, will be the province’s first offshore wind farm, according to China’s official news agency Xinhua.

The 4.45bn yuan ($706m) wind farm is set to start construction this year and connect to the grid in 2014.

The project, to be operated by Guangdong Electric Power Development, is one of three projects off the Guangdong coast that have been submitted for approval.

All three are expected to use Ming Yang turbines thanks to an agreement with the provincial government, Recharge understands.
