First Wind links with Algonquin, Emera on 370MW US portfolio

First Wind has partnered with a pair of Canadian companies to build, own and operate a 370MW wind portfolio in the US Northeast.

First Wind will own 51% of the new operating company with the balance owned by Algonquin Power and Utilities and Emera – both publicly traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The Canadian companies are forming a separate joint venture, called Northeast Wind, for this purpose, with Emera, an energy and services company, owning 75% and Algonquin, which holds water, electric and natural gas utilities, the rest.
