Vestas picked for 216MW Northwind Belgian offshore farm

Belgian offshore wind developer Northwind (formerly Eldepasco) says it has signed a conditional contract with Vestas for the supply of 72 V112-3.0MW turbines.

The turbines are for its Northwind wind farm, set to be constructed on the Bank Zonder Naam, off the coast of Zeebrugge in Belgium.

The contract, which is still subject to the wind farm reaching financial close, will include a 15-year service agreement. Construction is expected to begin in 2013.

Northwind is owned by Colruyt Group and Aspiravi Offshore, and headed by chief executive Frank Coenen. He was involved in construction of the Belwind Bligh Bank 1 offshore wind farm, for which Vestas also supplied the turbines.
