Dubai to build 'world's biggest' offshore wind platform for Dolwin

Dubai shipyard Drydocks World has been contracted to build what it says is the biggest offshore wind platform structure ever commissioned.

The 92-metre by 73-metre platform will be deployed in the German North Sea to host power conversion equipment for the Dolwin 2 offshore wind transmission cluster.

The platform, called Dolwin Beta, will have a capacity of 924MW and handle the power from three wind farms. It includes accommodation facilities for 16 people and a helicopter deck.

Drydocks World will construct the platform for Norwegian energy services group Aibel.

Aibel is itself a supplier to ABB, the engineering group that last August won a $1bn order from German transmission Log in to read complete article.
