Governor Cuomo plans to bring wind power to New York

New York state intends to form partnerships with the private sector to upgrade its energy infrastructure, including transmission lines needed to develop and bring abundant wind power resource to load centres in and around New York City.

In his annual State of the State address, Governor Andrew Cuomo says his administration will request proposals to create an “energy highway” system of high-voltage lines to transport wind power from northern New York and the neighbouring Canadian province of Quebec.

The Y-shaped energy grid would be financed and built by the private sector, with a branch linking western New York, which has abundant large-scale hydropower along the Niagara River.
