Duke-American buys wind line as Pattern advances its own

Duke-American Transmission Co. (DATC) has acquired a 950-mile (1,528km) wind power line project that will originate in eastern Wyoming, while wind developer Pattern Energy has obtained key federal approvals for its Southern Cross transmission project in Texas.

DATC , a joint venture of Duke Energy and American Transmission, did not say what it paid Pathfinder Renewable Wind Energy for the Zephyr Power Transmission Project. The Zephyr 500kV high-voltage direct current line will bring wind power from the Chugwater region of Wyoming to California and several other regions in the southwestern US.

The line, which will cost an estimated $3.5bn, will interconnect with the southwestern power grid near Las Vegas, Nevada.
