TenneT feels ire of German wind industry over offshore links

Germany’s wind industry is questioning the integrity of transmission giant TenneT’s recent plea for Berlin to grant it more time and money to build new offshore grid connections, accusing the Dutch company of bad faith.

Industry sources argue that TenneT should not have bought Transpower, the E.ON-owned transmission system operator (TSO) for the German regions bordering the North Sea, if it were not financially capable of building the offshore links.

They deflect TenneT’s assertion that two offshore “clusters” due for commissioning in 2013 may be delayed because of a shortage of cables, saying the TSO should have initiated the procurement process sooner.
