Acciona tries again in Australian 'visual amenity' wind farm row

Spanish wind group Acciona Energy is ending its legal bid to remove a block on a controversial project in South Australia, and will instead submit a fresh application under new planning rules.

Acciona has withdrawn its appeal against a ruling that barred its proposed 69MW wind farm at Allendale East because of its effect on local views – the first time an Australian project has been blocked on “visual amenity” grounds.

The Spanish company now plans to submit a new application in accordance with revised planning requirements recently announced by the South Australia state government, Acciona director of development Andrew Thomson says.

Under the new planning rules, the state government would be able to limit the ability of communities to appeal against existing Log in to read complete article.
