Clean Line, TVA team to promote HVDC wind transmission

Efforts to transport gigawatts of wind energy from the US Midwest to the Southeast are advancing as developer Clean LineEnergy Partners and federally-owned Tennessee Valley Authority are pooling efforts to identify ways to make this happen.

The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding to identify the full range of benefits that high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission projects may provide to TVA’s stakeholders.

They will also explore non-discriminatory methods for TVA to utilize independently-owned transmission as a means to improve system reliability, increase resource flexibility and enhance the potential for the integration of renewable energy.
