Salazar vows US will 'stand up' offshore wind industry

A defiant Interior Secretary Ken Salazar says the US is going to “stand up” an offshore wind industry, regardless of political fallout from the Solyndra scandal that has led opponents of President Barack Obama in Congress to condemn all federal support for renewable energy.

“Americans face a clear choice. They can listen to those in Congress who don’t think we can lead the world in renewable energy technologies, or who say it’s too risky or too difficult,” he told an offshore wind conference in Baltimore.

Salazar contends that Obama’s green energy opponents “seem to think America doesn’t have what it takes to innovate, create, and lead.”

He adds that despite the developmental and technological hurdles that must be overcome, the US must not be afraid of the challenge that offshore wind and progress toward a renewable energy…
