Siemens makes first US sale of 6MW offshore turbine

US developer Deepwater Wind will become the launch customer in North America for the new Siemens 6MW offshore wind turbine, after signing an agreement to purchase five of the SWT-6.0-120 direct-drive machines for its pilot project off Rhode Island.

Financial terms of the deal were not released.

Deepwater chief executive William Moore and Thomas Mousten, head of offshore, Americas, for Siemens were set to reveal more details of the alliance at the American Wind Energy Association's Offshore Windpower 2011 conference in Baltimore.
