BP plans $800m Kansas wind farm with 419MW of GE turbines

BP Wind Energy plans to spend $800m building a 419MW wind farm in the US state of Kansas.

The company – a subsidiary of UK oil giant BP – will power the Flat Ridge 2 project with 262 GE 1.6MW wind turbines.

BP Wind Energy has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for 314MW of the farm’s output with utility AECI, which will supply electricty to its customers in Missouri, northeast Oklahoma and southeast Iowa.

If it receives the necessary permits to proceed, it will begin building Flat Ridge 2 later this year and aims to begin commercial operations by the end of 2012.
