NYPA pulls plug on Great Lakes wind project citing cost

The New York Power Authority (NYPA) has ended a high-profile and controversial initiative to develop wind farms in state waters of Lake Erie and/or Lake Ontario, citing high costs and “current economic conditions".

The largest US state power-provider says it will now focus on development of an Atlantic Ocean wind project off Long Island and Queens, a borough of New York City, in partnership with Con Edison of New York and the Long Island Power Authority.

The three partners recently submitted an application to the US Interior Department to lease bottomlands in federal waters for the LI-NYC Offshore Wind Project
