In Depth: 'Sinovel paid AMSC worker to steal wind turbine IP'

American Superconductor (AMSC) alleges one of its employees was paid by Sinovel – China’s biggest wind turbine manufacturer – to steal key elements of its technology.

AMSC, which is taking criminal and civil legal action against Sinovel in China, claims it has strong evidence that one of its systems integrators in Austria was “engaged and paid” by “senior level Sinovel employees” to hand over key elements of the software code for its wind turbine power electronics.

The AMSC worker is now in jail in Austria awaiting trial on industrial espionage charges, says the US company, which has been working with “law enforcement” officials since June.
