REpower expands German plants ahead of offshore wind push

REpower Systems has outlined plans to spend €10m ($13.6m) expanding capacity at its factories in Bremerhaven and Brandenburg, Germany, while shifting production of some older models to Portugal and India.

The German turbine maker says it is ramping up capacity from 600MW to 900MW in Bremerhaven, where it manufactures nacelles and hubs primarily for its 5MW and 6MW offshore turbines.

It is also converting its assembly hall in Brandenburg to enable production of its increasingly popular 3.XM series of onshore machines, while shifting assembly of its older 2MW MM-type model to sites at Husum in Germany, Portugal, and Padubidri, India.
