Germany's BayWa looks east with $6.6m Ecowind purchase

German agricultural products group BayWa has expanded its wind-power operations with the €4.6m ($6.6m) purchase of Austrian developer Ecowind.

BayWa says its acquisition of 90% of the Austrian firm will give it access to the “huge potential of onshore wind power in Eastern Europe”.

Ecowind, which has some 400MW in development in Austria and elsewhere, has recently expanded its activities eastwards.

The company has set up subsidiaries in Romania, Bulgaria, Poland and Croatia, and has a project underway in Hungary, it says on its website.
