Goldwind adds South America to growing global wind ambitions

Chinese turbine maker Goldwind is expanding into emerging markets in South America and Africa as it seeks to increase revenues from overseas sales.

The company today says it has opened an office in Ecuador to develop sales across South America.

Goldwind, China’s second-largest turbine maker, has also set up offices in South Africa and Canada in recent months.

Li Chunhua, deputy director general of Goldwind International, claims the firm’s products are well-suited to emerging markets.

He tells Recharge its permanent magnet direct-drive systems, for example, need less maintenance than geared turbines in markets where supply-chain and service capabilities are not yet established.
