Hyundai Heavy gains foothold in US wind turbine market

After several false starts, Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) will soon have several wind turbines in operation in the US, where the South Korean company hopes to win sales as part of its strategy to become a top-10 global supplier this decade.

Zotos International , a unit of Japan’s Shisiedo, a cosmetics and personal care company, is in the final stages of connecting two Hyundai 1.65MW wind turbines to the grid at its plant in Geneva, New York State, says a company spokeswoman.

The units will produce 6.5 million kWh of electricity a year, about 60% of the plant’s requirements.
