GE unveils 630MW in early orders for new 1.6MW wind turbine

GE has announced significant orders for its new 1.6MW wind turbine with a 100-metre rotor diameter, which it says will yield a 19% increase in energy production over earlier models.

As revealed exclusively by Recharge last week, The US group unveiled the 1.6-100 at Windpower 2011 in Anaheim, California, where it also announced almost 630MW of orders for the new machine.

GE says independent wind developer Invenergy has committed to 233 turbines totalling 372.8MW for three projects in the US Midwest.

Brazilian developers Serveng Civilsan, Bioenergy and Oleoplan will take 106, 36 and 18 machines respectively, for a total of 256MW to be delivered next year.
