NRG Bluewater seeks Delaware offshore turbine suppliers

NRG Bluewater Wind is in turbine supply talks with European and US vendors for its proposed Mid-Atlantic Wind Park off the coast of Delaware.

The developer is looking at both direct-drive and gearbox-driven turbine models between 3MW and 6MW, and has begun the process of narrowing the list of vendors, spokesman David Gaier tells Recharge. Bluewater expects to make a final selection this year.

Although not named by the company, leading contenders are believed to include General Electric (GE), REpower, Siemens and Vestas, and possibly some smaller vendors with existing offshore turbine models.
