Dong concedes it is hunting for a Round 3 offshore wind project

Danish utility Dong Energy intends to buy a significant stake in a UK Round 3 offshore wind farm within the next six months, in order to secure a pipeline of projects until 2020, Recharge can reveal.

Dong was shut out of Round 3 by the UK’s Crown Estate, ­despite being the world’s largest offshore wind generator, with nearly 800MW in place and another 1.2GW under construction.

The utility has an enormous number of projects being built or entering construction, but after 2015, its pipeline is headed for a damaging dip unless it buys into one of the nine zones allocated under last year’s Round 3.
