Wind farm capacity increase approved by Aneel

ANEEL, the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency, has authorized Renova Energia’s request to increase the installed capacity of 14 wind farms with energy sold in the 2009 tender.

The total capacity of the farms will go from 270MW to 293.6MW with the use of 184 1.6MW XLE GE turbines rather than 180 1.5 XLE/SLE turbines.

In addition, Renova has obtained installation licenses for eight of its wind farms in Bahia.

The São Paulo-listed company should begin construction on those projects this month. The projects must come on line in July 2012.
