Global Energy to redevelop Nigg Yard for renewables

Fresh life could be breathed into a Scottish fabrication yard after Aberdeen and Inverness-based Global Energy Group emerged as the preferred bidder to redevelop the site.

Global Energy is planning to transform the Nigg yard at Easter Ross on the Cromarty Firth into an energy industry hub serving the renewables and oil and gas sectors.

The company, which has been a tenant at the yard for several years, predicts more than 1,500 jobs could be created on the 238-acre site.

Global Energy, under chairman Roy MacGregor, hopes to able to unveil its masterplan in May.

By April, it hopes to purchase the two-thirds of the site owned by US company KBR and secure a long-term lease on the other section…
