The
100-turbine
Thanet
will
remain

world’s
largest
offshore
wind
project
until
the
London
Array
is
finished
around
2013.
It
required
an
unprecedented
level
of
operational
effort
and
financial
commitment
from
Vattenfall.
Rather
than
working
through
one
engineering,
procurement
and
construction
contractor,
Vattenfall
elected
to
manage
the
project
in
house,
including
co-ordinating
with
the
more

70
firms
that
had
a
hand
in
bringing
Thanet
to
completion.
Thanet
stands
12km
offshore
in
the
Thames
Estuary,
and
is
connected
via
two
15km
subsea
export
cables
to
an
onshore
switching
station
at
Richborough,
Kent.
